The SCDOT today provided me with the following update: They have selected and released the contractor for the S-56 Horseford Road Over Four Hole Swamp Bridge Replacement Project (as of yet, the official DOT project website has not been updated). The contractor is scheduled to lay down equipment this week, with plans to begin work on Monday, October 26, 2026, starting with clearing the approach areas and removing the existing bridge. The new bridge is planned to be built on the existing road bridge alignment to reduce impacts to the wetland area. As the current bridge is closed, there will be no impact on traffic as the bridge replacement begins. The planned completion date for this project remains set for 10/31/2027.
